# PrestaShop speed optimization for product, category and cart pages

A customer waiting for the product page to load goes back to the search results and buys somewhere else. We measure the load time of the product page, category page and cart, show what's slowing each one down, and fix it in order of impact. PrestaShop speed optimisation starts with numbers, not with a list of tips from the internet.

Starting point

## How do you know your load time is too slow?

PrestaShop speed optimisation works on three Core Web Vitals metrics: LCP, CLS and INP. Customers don't use those abbreviations, they describe them in three sentences you'll recognise from conversations with support. Each one points to a different cause and a different cost to fix.

**

### The product photo arrives last

The description and price are already there, and the main photo is still loading. That's LCP, usually caused by image size or load order, less often by server power.

**

### The category jumps under your finger

The customer taps a size filter, a banner loads in at the same moment, and they tap the wrong product. That's CLS: no reserved space for elements that load in later.

**

### Add to cart responds late

Nothing happens, so the customer taps again, and two units land in the cart. That's INP, usually caused by too many scripts running in the background at the same moment.

Scope

## PrestaShop speed optimisation: what we actually do in the store

- ✓ Baseline measurement: TTFB, LCP, INP and CLS, separately for the product page, category page and cart
- ✓ Server and database: PHP version, OPcache, page caching, queries generated by catalogue filtering
- ✓ Modules: how much time each one adds to generating the page, and which you can disable with no loss of store functionality
- ✓ Product images: next-generation formats, dimensions set in the code, thumbnails generated once instead of on every visit
- ✓ External scripts: the ad pixel, chat and reviews module, each priced in milliseconds, with what you lose by removing it
- ✓ A re-measurement after implementation, on the same three page types and under the conditions recorded the first time

### What we use

### What this service does not cover

- We don't promise a hundred on PageSpeed Insights: the store still has to load the pixels and the reviews module your sales figures depend on
- We don't rebuild the template from scratch, that's implementation, not optimisation
- We don't buy hosting for you or move the store to another server, you contract that directly with the provider

Where this service ends

## Speed optimisation, or a technical audit?

Short answer

Speed optimisation is enough when the store works correctly but builds product pages and categories slowly because of images, scripts and modules. When the store crashes, loses orders, or throws errors after an update, start with a technical audit, because speed is then a symptom, not the illness.

The analysis covers the store's code and configuration, not your contract with the server provider. It leaves you with a list of fixes, each with a calculated gain and a number of hours, so you can have the fixes implemented by us, your own developer, or anyone who knows PrestaShop.

![A slow product page as a symptom: images, scripts and modules, or a sick store engine](https://justidea.agency/assets/ill-audyt-techniczny.svg)

### This is the right service

- Product pages take several seconds to build on a phone.
- Core Web Vitals in Search Console are showing red.
- Product campaigns get more expensive because the landing page is slow.

### Start somewhere else

- The store crashes or loses orders in the cart: that's a technical audit.
- The customer reaches the cart and leaves despite a fast store: that's a store UX audit.
- The server can't handle a promotion peak: that's PrestaShop hosting.

What we don't promise

## Why we don't sell a hundred on PageSpeed Insights

![Bars before and after optimisation, separately for the product page, category page and cart, set against the threshold for a good score](https://justidea.agency/assets/ill-optymalizacja-predkosci-sklepow-internetowych-pomiar.svg)

A hundred on PageSpeed Insights is the easiest thing to promise and the least worth buying. The score is calculated for a single load of a single page under lab conditions, and a store that needs to collect orders has to load analytics, an ad pixel, chat and a reviews module. You can switch them off and get a hundred, only then nobody knows where the orders are coming from any more.

JustIdea works from field data, meaning readings from your customers' own browsers, not a simulator's score. Our store speed optimisation rests on three readings: server response time, the moment the largest element appears, and whether the layout jumps under your finger. We run each one separately for the product page, category page and cart, because a different thing slows down each of those three: images, filters and payment scripts.

PrestaShop optimisation follows an order, and it comes from how much each layer gives back. First the server and caching, because they work across the whole catalogue at once. Then product images and above-the-fold fonts. Last, external scripts, where the slack is often biggest, but you have to decide what to give up.

The difference is biggest on a phone, because the processor is weaker and signal strength varies. That's why we measure the mobile version separately, and check the template alongside how CSS and JavaScript files block the product page from painting. The same store can score green on desktop and red on mobile, so the report shows both separately.

What we measure

### Core Web Vitals, LCP, INP and CLS: what we actually measure

**Core Web Vitals is** the set of metrics Google uses to describe how a page loads for real users, not in a lab. We add server response time on top, because without it the other three have no way to be good. This is each one in the context of a store.

Server response time (TTFB)

How long before the server starts sending the page back. This is the ceiling for everything that follows: no amount of image work makes up for a slow server. In a store with a large catalogue, this is usually down to the database handling filters.

Largest element on screen (LCP)

When the customer sees the biggest thing on the page: the product photo or the category banner. This number decides whether the store feels fast, and it's most often broken by images uploaded at full original size.

Response to a tap (INP)

How long before the store responds to a tap on a filter, a variant choice or add-to-cart. It degrades from too many scripts running in the background. Customers feel this metric most directly, because it's about their own action.

Layout stability (CLS)

Whether content jumps while loading. An image with no set dimensions, a banner loading in late, or a consent bar pushing everything else down make the customer tap the wrong product. In the cart, that costs orders, not just nerves.

Order of work

## Speeding up a PrestaShop store step by step

We start with changes that improve the whole catalogue at once, and end with the ones that need your decision about what to give up. In between: caching, the database and product images.

1.

1

### Server and caching

Step 1

PHP version, code and page caching, database tuning. One change works across the whole catalogue, so the return per hour of work is highest here. We also start here because only afterwards can you see how much the other layers add.

2.

2

### Product images and fonts

Step 2

Next-generation formats, dimensions set in the code, deferred loading below the fold, a fallback for the typeface. The second-best layer for payoff, and the only one where the difference is visible to the naked eye right after launch.

3.

3

### The modules that cost the most

Step 3

We check how much time each module adds to generating the page and how many queries it sends to the database. Some get disabled with no loss of function, some get replaced with a cheaper equivalent. This is where we need your decision, because it touches what the store can do.

4.

4

### External scripts

Step 4

Analytics, ad pixels, chat, reviews, consent banners. The biggest slack and the biggest risk, because every change touches measurement or a campaign. That's why we leave them for last and go through them together with whoever owns the ads.

5.

5

### Re-measurement and handover

Step 5

The same three page types and the same set of metrics, under the conditions recorded at the first measurement. Without this you can't tell the effect of the work from a swing in traffic, and that's exactly the difference you're paying for. What's left: a set of rules for your team and ongoing speed measurement, because later implementations can eat the effect.

Other services

## What else can we do for you?

A store is several layers at once: server, code, catalogue and customer behaviour. Speed optimisation works on the code and on measurement, and the other layers are covered by the neighbouring services.

Client reviews

## Ratings instead of promises about milliseconds

A promise about speed is easy to make and hard to hold anyone to, because the result also depends on hosting and the template. Instead, we show how clients have rated JustIdea on three public platforms.

## Speed only shows up in the campaign and in conversion

A score from a measurement tool isn't the goal, just an indicator. These are the statuses that let us connect fixes to the two places a slow store actually costs you: conversion and cost per click.

### PrestaShop Expert ★★★

PrestaShop, agency programme

PrestaShop's bottleneck usually sits in caching, in modules and in server configuration for a specific release. The agency programme gives JustIdea the requirements of a new version before it's published, so we're not optimising for a state that's about to change.

### Top E-commerce Developers Kraków 2026

Clutch, e-commerce developer ranking

An e-commerce developer ranking. Clutch calls the author of every review before publishing it, so the ranking rests on stores that keep working after our fixes.

### Google Premier Partner

Google, top tier of the Google Partners programme

In a product campaign, a slow product page hurts your quality score and raises the cost per click. The status gives us data on Google's side, so the effect of fixes shows up in the ad account, not just in a measurement tool.

Doubts before working with us

## Four things we hear about store performance

We answer every one of them with a measurement from the customer's phone, not an impression from the office.

### “The store loads fast for me”

For you it loads from the browser cache, logged in, on a company connection. A customer arrives for the first time, on a phone, from an ad, on a product page they've never seen. We measure it the way they and Google see it, not the way the owner does.

### “A hundred on PageSpeed is marketing, not sales”

Agreed, a hundred isn't the goal and we don't sell it. The goal is the Core Web Vitals thresholds Google publishes, and how fast the store responds when you add to cart. We order fixes by impact on conversion, not by a tool's score.

### “We'll have to change hosting”

Less often than you'd think. Usually images sit at full original size, a dozen or so tracking scripts start before the content, and modules load on every page. We check hosting as part of the analysis and say plainly whether that's the actual ceiling.

### “The effect will disappear after a month”

It will, if nobody keeps an eye on new modules and images. That's why the analysis ends with a set of rules for your team, and post-launch support includes a re-measurement. A store doesn't break on its own, later implementations without measurement break it.

FAQ

## Store speed optimisation: questions before you decide

**### How much does PrestaShop speed optimization cost?**

The analysis costs €740 net and ends with a list of fixes ordered by impact. Implementation is billed at €80 net an hour on both PrestaShop and WooCommerce, always after a scope quote, so you know the cost before we start. You can also buy the analysis alone and implement it with your own team.

**### How do I speed up a PrestaShop store?**

In this order: server and caching, then product images and fonts, then modules, then external scripts. Speeding up a PrestaShop store starts with the layer that works across the whole catalogue at once, because that's where an hour of work pays off the most. A measurement, not this list, confirms the order for your store.

**### How much faster will my store get?**

It cannot be calculated before the measurement, because the result depends on what's holding your catalogue back today. Every fix on the list comes with an estimated gain in milliseconds and a time cost, so you decide on numbers, not a promise.

**### Does store speed affect Google rankings?**

It does, but more weakly than usually assumed. Core Web Vitals is one quality signal among others and won't carry a product page to first place on its own. The measurable effect sits closer to the till: a slow page loses customers before they see the price, and that shows up in orders from the same traffic.

**### How is this different from a technical audit?**

A technical audit at €860 covers the whole store: security, core version, customisations and database, with performance as part of it. This service deals only with speed, but goes deeper into it, and ends with a re-measurement after implementation.

**### Do we have to change hosting?**

Sometimes, but we never start with that recommendation. We first check whether the server is configured for your PrestaShop release: PHP version, OPcache, page caching and queries from catalogue filtering. In most stores we look at, configuration gains more than a bigger machine.

**### How long does the optimisation effect last?**

Server and caching fixes stay. The result degrades from new things: another marketing script, a module adding database queries, images uploaded at full size with a new collection. That's why we leave ongoing measurement in place after launch instead of a single reading.

**### Does optimisation require taking the store offline?**

No. We deploy server and caching changes outside peak selling hours, and test every template change on a copy first. The store keeps taking orders throughout the work, and that's a condition, not an option to choose.

## Let's start with a measurement, not a promise of a hundred

The first 30 minutes is a conversation about your catalogue: how many products you have, what sells the most and which pages pull traffic from ads. Then we measure the store the way a customer sees it on their phone, and hand over a list of fixes any contractor can implement.
