Google Business Profile

# Google Business Profile optimisation

A customer looking for a service nearby first sees a map with three businesses, and only below it the regular search results. We work to make your business one of those three, because customers rarely scroll further, and they usually call one of the first.

The report shows calls, not views

We count calls, direction requests and website visits. Each of them can be set against your number of orders. Views cannot.

**

A profile protected against edits

Google lets anyone suggest changes to your profile. We make sure they do not go live quietly.

Where the decision is made

## Three things that happen before anyone visits your website

The map sits above the search results, so some customers never scroll down. What they see on the map decides whether they call you or the business next door.

**

### Customers call from the profile, not from the website

Phone number, opening hours and directions are all in the profile, so for a local service it is the first page a customer looks at. A visit to the website is often only the third step, after the call and the route.

**

### Reviews decide faster than the offer

At the same price, three and a half stars next to four point seven settles the choice in seconds. A recent negative review with no reply weighs more than ten old positive ones.

**

### A competitor with a weaker offer often ranks higher

The order on the map depends on profile completeness, category, reviews and distance, not on the quality of your service. A place in the top three is won by work on the profile, not by a better offer.

The basics

### What is Google Business Profile SEO?

**Google Business Profile optimisation is** the work of getting your Google Business Profile, formerly Google My Business, to show high in Google Maps and in the local pack. The local pack is the box with three businesses and a map that sits above the regular search results. This is local SEO: it is not about your website, although the two support each other. Google names three factors behind the order on the map: relevance, distance and prominence. You can influence the first and the third.

Relevance: a complete profile

Primary and additional categories, description, services with descriptions, products, opening hours including holidays, service area, attributes. This is where we do the most work and where rankings move fastest.

Prominence: signals from customers

The number and freshness of reviews, ratings and replies to them, questions and answers, photos added by visitors. You cannot buy this, but you can ask for it systematically and manage it.

Distance: the one factor outside your control

A customer two streets away sees a different top three than a customer on the other side of town, and nobody can change that. That is why we measure rankings on a grid of points around you, not as a single number.

Three different places

## How does a business profile differ from a website and from Bing Places?

These three places count different things, so the work on each looks different. After this table you will know which of them answers searches for your service and which you can leave for later.

How does a business profile differ from a website and from Bing Places?

| What we compare | Google Business Profile | Website | Bing Places |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Where it shows | Local pack above the results and Google Maps | Organic results below the local pack | Bing Maps and Copilot answers |
| Which searches it answers | A service with a city name, or searched “near me” | Broader informational and comparison searches | The same local ones, at lower traffic |
| What decides the order | Profile relevance, distance, prominence | Content, links, technical health of the site | Completeness of the listing and consistent business data |
| First contact from a customer | A call or a direction request, without visiting the website | A website visit, then a form or a call | A call or a website visit |
| How soon you see a change | Weeks after the profile is put in order | Months | Weeks, but with fewer searches |

How we work

## From audit to ongoing management

We put the profile in order once and then manage it every month, because customer signals cannot be caught up in one go. After the second stage your profile is complete and protected against edits by others. After the third you have a baseline in numbers: calls, direction requests and website visits from before our work. Every later report compares against those numbers, not against impressions.

1.

1

### Profile and competitor audit

Stage 1

We check profile completeness, the choice of categories, consistency of your data across business directories, and what the top three looks like for your search terms at different points around you. The result is a list of gaps ranked by impact.

2.

2

### Setting up and cleaning up the profile

Stage 2

Primary and additional categories, a description written for real searches, services and products with descriptions, opening hours including holidays, service area, attributes, photos. Plus protection of the profile, so that changes suggested by others do not go live without your knowledge.

3.

3

### Search term analysis and measurement

Stage 3

A map of local search terms for your service and city, and a report showing phone calls, direction requests and website visits, not just views. Without it you cannot tell visibility apart from the contact it produced.

4.

4

### Monthly management

Every month

Update posts, new photos, questions and answers, new service descriptions, review monitoring and replies, links to the profile. This is the work that holds your position, because an inactive profile loses it to an active competitor.

Case studies

## Eight business profiles and the rankings they reached

JustIdea has written up each of these projects separately, in Polish: what we found, what we changed and what came of it. The industries differ on purpose, because the map works one way for a clinic, another for a wholesaler and another for a renovation service. For each we give the ranking for a specific Polish search term, because that is how these case studies describe the result, and we will not add a percentage that is not in them.

[### Solvent, ventilation wholesaler

Gains for “hurtownia wentylacyjna Tarnów” (ventilation wholesaler) and “rekuperatory Tarnów” (heat recovery units), more website visits and phone calls.

In numbers

## Calls and directions from business profiles, year on year

A business profile should bring phone calls and visits, so that is what we measure: for a ventilation wholesaler in Tarnów and a dental practice in Skawina, June to August 2026 against the same quarter of 2025, read on 10 September 2026. We do not give names, because these figures do not appear in any published case study.

+96%

+43%

direction requests to that wholesaler

+70%

+35%

Client reviews

## We compete for the same reviews your business profile does

Google Business Profile optimisation relies heavily on reviews: how many there are, how fresh they are and how they are answered. So it is fair to show how we do on that ourselves, instead of explaining how you should. We collected the ratings below the way we suggest you do it: by asking clients after the work is done.

Certifications and partnerships

## When Google suspends a profile or takes down a review

In these cases what counts is a route to a real person on the platform's side, not a submission form. The three statuses below give us that route.

### Google Premier Partner

Google, top tier of the Google Partners programme

For a business profile one thing matters: access to Google support in disputes, such as a suspended profile or a reported review. Plus data on which local searches end in a contact.

### Top Inbound Marketing Company Poland 2026

Clutch, inbound marketing ranking

A business profile should deliver exactly what this ranking measures: contact that comes in on its own. Clutch verifies every review by speaking to its author, so it rests on reviews, not claims.

### Microsoft Advertising Elite Partner

Microsoft, highest tier of the programme

Bing has its own maps and its own business profile, partly fed by the same data. We check that your business details match in both, because a mismatch weakens how much both search engines trust your data.

Doubts before working with us

## Four reasons businesses put off their business profile

Each of them makes sense and each has an answer you can check before you sign anything.

### „We have a profile and run it ourselves”

Fine, then we start with an audit, not with management. We usually find three things: a wrong primary category, an empty services section and no reply to some reviews. The first can cut the profile out of whole groups of searches, and it takes a few minutes to fix.

### „We only have good reviews, that is enough”

The rating is one signal among several. A five-star profile with no service descriptions, no photos from the last year and no activity loses to a lower-rated profile that is actively managed. The rating alone does not get a profile into the top three.

### „We already do SEO for our website, why a separate service”

These are two different places in the results. Work on the website does not lift your ranking on the map, because the map counts other things: profile completeness, reviews and distance. For local services, the profile brings calls sooner than the website, so the order is often the reverse of what people expect.

### „Competitors have bought reviews, we cannot win this”

Bought reviews are detectable and end with a suspended profile, and then the business disappears from the map entirely rather than dropping a few places. We have seen the results at businesses that came to us afterwards. We do not do it and advise against it, even when a client asks for it directly.

Pricing

## Two items: a one-off setup and monthly management

The setup is a mandatory first step, and monthly management only starts after it. You can order the setup on its own, without management, but an inactive profile hands its position to a competitor who keeps theirs active. Both items cover all the work in the profile and the report: you do not pay extra per post, photo or review reply.

First step

### Audit and setup

A one-off clean-up of the profile from scratch, together with an audit of the top three competitors in your area.

€310 net

one-off

- Profile audit and competitor audit, measured at several points around you
- Primary and additional categories
- Profile description, services and products section
- Opening hours, service area, attributes
- Protection of the profile against outside changes
- A list of gaps ranked by impact, for your own team to implement

### Ongoing management

This is the work JustIdea does in the profile every month: it holds the position and builds activity signals, which a one-off setup does not leave behind.

from €250 net

a month, after the setup

- Update posts and new photos every month
- Questions and answers filled in by us before a stranger does it
- Review monitoring and reply drafts, negative ones included

## When a business profile is not what you need

Short answer

A business profile pays off where customers have you within travelling distance and choose in seconds. If that is not your case, we will tell you what to start with instead.

A business profile and a website do not replace each other: for a local service, the map collects the first contact and the website closes the deal for a customer who wants to read more. We quote the two separately, because they need different work.

![A splitter: a search with a city name goes to the business profile, a general search to website SEO, and a question asked in Copilot to Bing Places](https://justidea.agency/assets/ill-google-maps-rozdzielnik.svg)

### This is the service for you

- A service on site or with travel to the customer: a practice, a workshop, an office, a wholesaler.
- Customers search with a city name or “near me” and call straight from the map.
- Several locations, each with its own address and its own reviews.
- A competitor with a weaker offer sits in the top three because they manage their profile and you do not.

### Start with something else

- Customers search in general terms, without a city: that is website SEO.
- You care about Copilot answers and Bing results: that is Bing SEO.
- You want paid ads on the map: that is Google Ads campaigns.

FAQ

## Google Business Profile: questions before you decide

**### How much does Google Business Profile optimisation cost?**

First €310 net for the one-off setup and clean-up of the profile, then €250 net a month for ongoing management, which we do not start without the setup. With more profiles, the unit price does not go up.

**### Is Google Business Profile free?**

Yes, creating and running a Google Business Profile costs nothing. You only pay for the work on it if you hand that work to someone. Google sells ads shown on the map separately, and that is a different thing you can add, but do not have to.

**### How long does it take for a profile to reach the top three?**

It depends on the state of the profile and on how many competitors around you manage their profiles just as consistently. Complete data works faster than customer signals, because reviews and activity build up over months. We measure the starting point in the first report, so there is something to compare the following months against, but we do not promise a date for reaching the top three and you will not find one in any of our offers.

**### Will you remove a negative review?**

A review cannot be removed on request, and nobody can honestly promise that. We report the ones that break Google's rules, meaning offensive, off-topic or written by people who were never customers, and Google does take some of them down. For the rest we draft a reply, because it is read by the next customer, not by the author of the review.

**### How does a profile audit differ from ongoing management?**

An audit is a one-off review: we check profile completeness, the choice of categories, consistency of data across directories, and what the top three competitors look like for your search terms at several points around you. It ends with a list of gaps ranked by impact. Ongoing management means implementing that list and working on activity signals every month.

More: [SEO audit of the whole site](https://justidea.agency/en/services/marketing-agency/seo-audit/)

**### Who owns the profile when we stop working together?**

You do, all the time. We work on your profile with access granted to our account, not on a profile we created. Removing that access takes a minute and needs nothing from us. This matters, because a profile set up by an agency on its own account can be a real problem when you change suppliers.

**### Is it worth optimising a Google Business Profile, and what does it give you?**

It is worth it when customers look for your service nearby, because the local pack sits above the organic results and collects the first clicks. Google Business Profile optimisation increases your visibility in Google and in Google Maps, and with it the number of calls, direction requests and website visits. A business visible in Google Maps collects these contacts even when nobody knows its name. It makes no sense if you only sell by delivery across the whole country: then the same budget does more in search.

More: [SEO for websites and online shops](https://justidea.agency/en/services/marketing-agency/positioning-seo/)

**### What exactly do we check in a Google Business Profile audit?**

Profile completeness and the choice of primary category, service area, photos, the services section, consistency of name, address and phone number in external directories, and replies to reviews. Plus ranking measurement on a grid of points around you, because a single number for a local search term tells you nothing. The audit ends with a list of gaps ranked by impact, not by the order we found them.

**### What photos and posts should you add to a Google Business Profile?**

Your own photos from the last year: the interior, the team, the results of your work. A profile without fresh photos looks abandoned, and that is how it is seen by a customer comparing three businesses side by side. Posts make sense when they carry something specific: a new service, changed hours, a seasonal offer. A post published just to publish something makes no difference in the results.

**### Why does NAP consistency matter so much for a business profile?**

NAP is the business name, address and phone number. Google compares them with what it finds on your website and in external directories, and treats a mismatch as a sign that it cannot be sure who it is dealing with. An old number in one directory and an abbreviated name in another are enough to weaken the profile's credibility. It is usually the cheapest thing to fix in the whole audit.

## Google Business Profile optimisation: the details clients ask about

**

### A map ranking cannot be described with one number

The order of results depends on where the searcher's phone is, so the same profile can be first for a customer in the centre and tenth for a customer on the other side of town. That is why we measure on a grid of points around you, and we treat a report with a single ranking per local term as a simplification you cannot base decisions on.

**

### The primary category is the single most important setting

Google uses it to decide which searches the profile can appear for at all. A wrong category is not a matter of a few places but of dropping out of whole groups of results, and it is also the most common mistake we find in audits. Additional categories widen the reach, but they do not fix a wrong primary one.

**

### Reviews are collected every month, not in a once-a-year push

Twenty reviews in one week after years of silence look suspicious and are sometimes filtered out. A few reviews a month, all year round, build credibility and keep the profile fresh. A review request sent right after the service is done gets a noticeably better response than a reminder a month later.

 More: [reviews of JustIdea](https://justidea.agency/en/justidea-reviews/)

**

### The profile also works in AI model answers

Search engines built on language models draw on profile data, reviews and questions from the business profile when they answer a request for a local service recommendation. A complete profile with service descriptions and answered questions gets into such an answer more easily than a profile with just a name and address, and there is no room there for ten results.

More: [visibility in AI engines (GEO)](https://justidea.agency/en/services/marketing-agency/generative-engine-optimization/) [ChatGPT SEO](https://justidea.agency/en/services/marketing-agency/chatgpt-seo/)

**

### The profile shows in two different places

Your Google Business Profile appears both in regular search results, in the box with three businesses and a map, and directly in Google Maps. These are two different routes and two different customer behaviours: in search they compare several businesses side by side, in Maps they usually look for the nearest one that is open. The profile has to win in both, because the same set of data drives both.

**

### Profile verification is a condition, not a formality

An unverified profile does not enter the local pack, so all the work on it has no effect. Google verifies a profile by postcard, phone, email or video, and for some categories it requires a video showing the premises and equipment. It is worth doing at the start, because re-verification after a suspension is often longer and harder than the first.

**

### A reply to a review works on the next customer

The author of a review usually will not read the reply, but someone comparing several businesses will. So we write the reply for them: to the point, without arguing, and saying what we did. Replying regularly is also a signal that the profile is managed, while no reply under a critical review leaves the customer's version as the only one.

**

### Directories count through consistent data, not through the number of listings

A directory listing is worth something when it repeats exactly the same name, address and phone number as the profile. A hundred listings with three versions of your address do more harm than ten consistent ones do good. In the audit we first check the directories that people in Poland actually use, and we correct the mismatches before adding anything new.

**

### We quote the profile and the website separately

We do both, but they are two different jobs with two different quotes. With one address and local customers, Google Maps optimisation pays back faster than work on the site's content: profile visibility grows in weeks, website visibility in months. That is why for a local service we start with the map and plan website SEO as the second step, not as a condition.

More: [SEO for websites and online shops](https://justidea.agency/en/services/marketing-agency/positioning-seo/) [Bing SEO and Bing Places](https://justidea.agency/en/services/marketing-agency/bing-places/)

**

### How much Google Business Profile optimisation costs

What Google Business Profile optimisation costs depends on whether it is a one-off clean-up or ongoing management of the profile. A one-off clean-up makes sense for a single location and ends with a list of changes made in the profile. Month-by-month management covers posts, review handling, photos, ranking measurement in Google Maps and the directories holding your business data. On top of the price list there is work on your side: photos from the premises and answers to customer questions, because no agency can do that for you.

**

### A business with several locations: one profile per address

Each location is a separate profile with its own reviews, its own service area and its own ranking on the map, so each is worked on separately. The unit price does not go up with more profiles, and part of the work, such as the search term map and description templates, is done once for all of them.

More: [marketing agency in your city](https://justidea.agency/en/services/digital-marketing-agency/)

**

### Hand the profile to an agency or a freelancer

A freelancer is enough for a one-off clean-up of a single profile and is often cheaper for that. The difference starts with ongoing management: continuity when one person is ill or stops working with you, and access to Google support when a profile is suspended. Plus a comparison of your area with data from other accounts, not from a single case. With one location and calm competition that difference can be irrelevant, and we say so openly. With several addresses, or in a city where the top three changes every week, it is what you are paying for.

More: [SEO audit of the whole site](https://justidea.agency/en/services/marketing-agency/seo-audit/)

**

### Optimising a profile versus ranking it

Optimisation is a one-off clean-up of the profile: primary category, service descriptions, photos, service area and consistent data. Ranking work is the ongoing effort on the signals that decide the order on the map, meaning reviews, activity and consistent data across directories. Optimisation gives an immediate jump, ranking work holds the result when a competitor nearby is doing the same.
