SEO audit

[4.96 224 reviews](https://justidea.agency/en/justidea-reviews/)

# SEO audit: first, let us decide which one you need

An online store audit and a company website audit share nothing but the name. The first goes down to filters, pagination and product pages, the second to content structure and query coverage. The scope differs, yet both start from the same price, because the size of the site decides where you land in the range. Ordering an "SEO audit" without settling this first ends with a document that answers someone else's question.

**

Two audits, not one

A store and a company website have different typical errors and a different split of hours, so we run them as two separate services. This page is here to settle which one you belong to.

**

A list of fixes, not a status report

What you get is a task list ordered by impact on results, split between the developer and the content team. Some of it you can implement without us.

Starting point

## Why audit before you decide?

So that before deciding on further work you know why the site is stuck. If a crawler cannot get through it, every next piece of work waits for that one fix. Most audits are ordered in one of these situations.

**

### Traffic dropped and no one knows why

A drop after a migration, after an algorithm update and after crawlers were blocked by accident all look the same in Search Console. Only a check of the site tells them apart, and the rest of the plan depends on which cause it was.

**

### You have paid for SEO for a year with no traffic

Sometimes the problem is not the work on content but the fact that the site cannot be indexed properly. Then you lose every further month of the retainer, and an audit from €980 net settles it once.

**

### Before a rebuild or a migration

The redirect map is then drawn up calmly, not in the week after you lose traffic. It is the only moment when it can be checked before the change instead of reconstructed after it.

Definition

### What does an SEO audit involve?

**An SEO audit is** a detailed analysis of a website or online store for SEO, across the technical and content layers: how Google interprets the site, what makes indexing harder and what pulls rankings down in search results. What you get is a list of fixes ordered by impact on results, with tasks for the developer and the content team, not a description of a state anyone can see for themselves. The three layers below are part of both audits, and what sets them apart is which one takes the most hours.

Technical layer

This is where the errors that block everything else sit, so we check them first. In a store this layer takes the most time.

- indexing and accessibility: robots.txt, sitemap, 404 errors, redirects, noindex
- canonical URLs and duplicate URLs, especially from filters and pagination
- Core Web Vitals and the mobile version, because Google assesses it first
- structured data for rich search results

Structure and content

Whether the site answers the queries your customer is searching for, and whether whole topical areas are missing. On a company website this is usually the thickest part of the report.

- heading hierarchy and menu: can you tell from them what the site is about
- matching content to search intent and long-tail phrases
- cannibalisation: whether two pages compete for the same query
- on-page: titles, descriptions, image alt text, internal linking

Link profile and competition

Where those ranking above you get their links, and whether the gap can be closed with content. This layer looks the same in both audits.

- quality and naturalness of links pointing to the site
- anchor texts and signals worth submitting for disavowal
- what is missing in your content compared with the leaders, topic by topic
- which of the leaders' pages attract links that yours do not have

Which audit

## Store audit versus company website audit

It is not the same work, even though both services start from the same price. Below are the differences that actually change the scope of the report and the order of tasks in it.

Store audit versus company website audit

| Issue | Online store | Company website |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Biggest risk | Duplication from filters and pagination | Too little content for purchase queries |
| Product pages | Hundreds or thousands of URLs | Not applicable |
| Structured data | Product, offer, reviews, availability | Organisation, service, FAQ |
| Performance | Critical, basket and listing | Important, but less risky |
| What takes the most hours | Cleaning up filter URLs and product page templates | Query coverage and boundaries between pages |

### SEO audit: what this table does not show

The line can be blurred and it does not run where the basket does. A service company with an extensive portfolio of projects has problems closer to a store than to a brochure site, and a store with twenty products is closer to a company website, which is why on the first call we ask how many URLs the site has and whether they are generated automatically. Second: an SEO audit is not the same as a technical platform audit, because the latter looks at versions, modules and security, not at positions in search results. If your store runs slowly and crashes under heavier traffic, a technical audit is the right one and that is what we advise then, even if you ask about SEO.

Choose your audit

## Four documents, of which you need one

The first two are SEO audits, and what separates them is scope, not price. The third answers a question about stability, not visibility, the fourth concerns language models. Each has its own page with the full scope and delivery time.

[### Online store SEO audit

Filters, pagination, product pages, offer structured data and listing performance. Choose it when URLs on the site are generated automatically and no one knows how many there are.

Content structure, query coverage, page cannibalisation, organisation and service structured data. Choose it when there are a dozen or so pages and each was written by hand.

Versions, modules, server, security. Choose it when the store runs slowly or crashes, while its positions in search results are fine.

How it works step by step

## From access to a task list ordered by impact

Three stages, about a month in total, the same for a store and a company website. Only the first takes your time: access and agreeing which pages are meant to earn money. The rest we do on our side and come back with a finished document.

1.

1

### Access and goals

a few days

Search Console, analytics and access to the content management system. We agree which pages are meant to earn money, because an audit without that list rates everything equally.

2.

2

### Technical and content analysis

3 weeks

Indexing, speed, URL and data structure, and alongside that search intent, keyword cannibalisation and gaps against the competition. Every finding is backed by data, not opinion.

3.

3

### Report and walkthrough

1 week

A task list ordered by impact on the number of search queries, with an effort estimate for each item. We go through it at a meeting included in the audit price and agree what your team does and what stays with us.

Scope

## What does an SEO audit include? Five areas we check

All five areas are part of both audits, so the list alone settles nothing. The proportion does: in a store the catalogue's technical side takes the most hours, on a company website query coverage does. At JustIdea an audit is a document with an end date, not the start of ongoing SEO work.

### Technical site analysis

Loading speed, indexing, Core Web Vitals, URL structure, the sitemap and a correct Google Search Console setup. We identify technical errors that block visibility in Google. This is the foundation of the audit: without a sound technical layer even the best content will not reach top positions. In a store this part is the longest, because URLs generated by filters and pagination can outnumber the products.

### Visibility in search engines and AI

Users increasingly look for answers not only in Google but in ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity. We check whether your content is authoritative, well structured and answers specific questions, in other words whether the site stands a chance of being cited as a source in AI-generated answers. We check this in both audits, and when it is the only question, a separate AI Overview audit is the better fit.

### Content and keyword optimisation

We analyse every page for SEO: headings, meta tags, keyword density, duplicate content and usability. We check whether the content answers real search queries and whether it is clear to Google and to visitors. We point out what to fix, in what order and how. On a company website this usually reveals page cannibalisation, in a store a product page competing with its category.

### Link profile and domain authority

We examine inbound and internal links: their quality, number and effect on rankings. We detect toxic links that harm the site in Google's eyes and gaps in internal linking that limit the flow of authority between pages. This part of the report looks almost identical in both services, because links point to the domain, not to the template.

### Competitor and content gap analysis

We compare the site with competitors in search and point out phrases where you can gain visibility but do not yet. We check what they do better and where you have a real chance of overtaking them without excessive effort. The set of companies we compare against is different for a store, different for a service website and different again for local sales.

Most common errors

## What does an SEO audit most often reveal?

Six groups of problems that come back in most audited sites and can be fixed in weeks, not quarters. For each we note which side of the line it usually falls on, because that is also the answer to which audit you need.

### Duplicate content

The same content on many pages confuses Google and lowers rankings. In online stores it is the most common problem, because filters, pagination and product variants produce it. On a company website the same symptom has a different cause: two pages written for the same query.

### Indexing errors

Wrong meta tags, errors in the robots.txt file or an accidental noindex can cut the search engine off from part of the site entirely. In the statistics it looks like a sudden drop in traffic for no reason. It happens on both sides of the line and, of everything on this list, it shows up in the data fastest.

### Slow loading and no mobile version

Every second of delay raises the bounce rate and lowers rankings. Google indexes sites primarily in their mobile version, so a non-responsive site is disqualified today. In a store we measure it on the listing page and in the basket, on a company website on the offer pages.

### Toxic inbound links

Links from dubious sources actively harm rankings and can lead to algorithmic filters. The audit shows which ones to submit for disavowal and which only look threatening. Here it makes no difference whether you sell through a basket or a contact form.

### Faulty heading and meta tag structure

Missing or duplicated H1, H2 and H3 tags make it harder for Google to understand the content hierarchy, and weak titles and descriptions lower the click-through rate in search results even when the page ranks high. On a company website that means a dozen or so pages to fix, in a store a few templates that generate thousands.

### Keywords and outdated content

Missing phrases, keyword stuffing or choosing queries that do not bring valuable traffic. Add to that pages with outdated information, which lose authority in the eyes of Google and users. In a store this concerns category descriptions and product pages, on a company website service pages and the blog.

In numbers

## From report to implementation: a case from the footwear industry

An audit ends with a to-do list, and its value lies in the order: what to fix first so that the store starts earning from organic results. With a footwear store, our work together began with an audit like this, and we measured the result in the client's Google Analytics over the following six months, from July to December 2022.

€140k

in revenue from organic results in six months for a footwear store whose first step was an SEO audit; overall revenue grew by 107 percent

Certifications and partnerships

## Who signs off on the audit's findings

An audit is the document on which you base your spending for the months that follow. It is worth knowing who writes it.

### Google Premier Partner

Google, top tier of the Google Partners programme

A status awarded on client results, not on passed tests. For an audit it means the recommendations come from work on live accounts, not from industry articles, and that we have a channel for questions when search engine behaviour departs from the documentation.

### PrestaShop Expert ★★★

PrestaShop, agency programme

In a store audit half of the recommendations concern things that then have to be implemented in the theme or a module. The top tier of the agency programme means a recommendation is feasible, not just right.

### Microsoft Advertising Elite Partner

Microsoft, partner programme of the advertising platform

The Bing index also feeds Copilot's answers, and hardly anyone in Poland checks it. Access to Microsoft's tools lets us show in the audit whether the site is visible there as well.

Doubts before working together

## SEO audit: three things we hear

### „We already had an audit a year ago”

If it was implemented, a second one is unnecessary and we say so plainly. If it is sitting unimplemented, we start by reviewing it and establishing what still applies, because that is shorter work than an audit from scratch.

### „Online tools give you this for free”

They give you a list of errors, and that is useful. They do not give you what costs money in an audit: deciding which of those hundred errors affect your results and which are noise.

### „We have no one to implement it”

This is the most common real reason audits end up in a drawer. That is why in the report we separate tasks for the developer from those the content team can do, and give an estimated time for each, so they can be assigned to someone.

Before you order

## Does a free SEO audit make sense and how does it differ from a paid one?

Short answer

A free audit makes sense as a first signal and will list technical errors you did not know about. It ends exactly where the most expensive question begins: which of these warnings affect your rankings at all and what to fix first.

Some of the automated recommendations are simply out of date. Google has long published [guidelines for webmasters](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/essentials) and separately describes [how it assesses content that is helpful to people](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/fundamentals/creating-helpful-content). Neither document mentions keyword density or the number of characters in a meta description, and those are the two things free tools list most often. An audit that has you fixing something the search engine never mentions costs time and changes nothing.

An audit is a one-off product: it has an end date, a list of fixes and a price stated upfront. SEO is its opposite, because it runs for months and is billed as a retainer. You order an audit when you want a diagnosis before a decision. The PROFIT package does not require one: it starts with a kick-off month with a strategy and a content plan, and technical fixes go into the hours of the following months. Who implements the audit's recommendations we agree at handover: you can take them to your own team or hand them to us.

![The path from an automated report with more than two hundred warnings, through questions the tool does not know, to a short list of fixes set in order](https://justidea.agency/assets/ill-audyt-seo-darmowy-kontra-platny.svg)

### A free audit is enough for you

- You want a first signal of whether the site has a technical failure.
- The site is new and small, so the list of errors will be short.
- You have someone who can decide for themselves what on that list matters.
- You are not buying traffic yet, so the order of fixes does not cost you money.

### You need a paid audit

- The automated report has 200 items and no one knows where to start.
- You are competing for specific phrases and do not know who ranks for them today.
- You want to know what you can let go, because your team's time is limited.
- You need the order of fixes priced in time, not just the list.

FAQ

## SEO audit: questions before you decide

**### What does an SEO audit include and what does it end with?**

Four areas, the same in both audit variants. Technical: indexing, URL structure, loading speed and the mobile version. Content: headings, meta tags, keywords, duplicates and a content audit against search intent. On top of that, the profile of links pointing to the site, and an analysis of the competition and the site's visibility in organic search results. An SEO audit ends with a report containing a task list ordered by impact on organic traffic, not a dump of warnings from a tool.

**### How do you do an SEO audit yourself and where is the limit?**

You can do an SEO audit yourself at the first layer, and it is worth starting there. Google Search Console will show indexing errors and the phrases the site appears for, Google Analytics organic traffic, and free tools will measure loading speed. The limit is interpretation: a tool will list a hundred warnings, of which five matter and the rest is noise. An SEO specialist's work is mostly putting those hundred items in order and discarding the ones that will not change the site's position in search results.

**### Do you offer a free SEO audit?**

Not as a report generated by a tool in a minute: a public tool will show you the same warnings for free. What we do offer is a free analysis of your SEO situation: technical errors, organic traffic, positions in the top 3 and top 10 and the competition for your phrases. After it you know whether a full audit makes sense and where to start. The audit itself takes from a dozen to several dozen hours of work, and that is what it costs.

**### What does an SEO audit involve?**

Checking what on the site stops it from ranking higher and writing that up as a list of fixes ordered by impact on results. It covers the technical layer, meaning indexing and performance, the content structure and a comparison with the competition. A good audit ends with tasks to do, not a description of a state you can see in any free tool.

**### How does a store SEO audit differ from a website audit?**

In scope and in the biggest risk. In a store the dominant problem is duplicate content from filters and pagination and the quality of product pages, of which there can be thousands. On a company website the risk is usually a lack of content answering purchase queries and cannibalisation between pages. They are two different jobs, which is why we have two separate services, even though both start from the same price.

**### How much does an SEO audit cost?**

Both audits start from €980 net: the one for a company website and the one for a store. The size of the site decides where you land in the range, because the number of templates to check translates directly into working time. We state the price before we talk, and the first consultation, where we settle which audit you need, is free.

**### How long does an SEO audit take?**

About a month in both services: the company website audit and the store audit, for which we give four weeks. We give the exact date after looking at the site: the difference between a twenty-page website and a store with five thousand products is several times the work. With a larger catalogue the date sits at the upper end of that month, because there are more templates and edge cases to check. We would rather give a date we will keep than a shorter one after which you call asking where the report is.

**### What do I get at the end?**

A document with a list of fixes ordered by impact on results, split into tasks for the developer and for the content team, with an estimated time for each item. Plus a meeting to go through the results, lasting 1 to 1.5 hours depending on the size of the audit; each further consultation is billed at €80 net an hour. The report is yours and you can implement it with your own team or any contractor.

**### Does an SEO audit also cover visibility in AI tools?**

Yes. Users increasingly look for answers in ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity, not only in a classic search engine. During the audit we check whether the site's structure and content are understandable to language models and whether the site stands a chance of being cited as a credible source in AI-generated answers. When the question is only "do the models mention us", JustIdea runs a separate, smaller AI Overview audit for that.

**### Does JustIdea also implement the audit's recommendations?**

Yes, if you want. We can implement the recommendations on the technical, content and link side, without explaining the context to yet another contractor. It is not a condition, though: the report is written so that it can be implemented by your own team or any agency, and the price of the audit does not depend on what you order afterwards.

**### Do I have to order SEO after the audit?**

No, and we set it up that way on purpose. The audit has a fixed price independent of what you order afterwards, and the list of fixes is written so that it can be implemented without us. Some clients come back after a quarter asking about a retainer, and that is fine, but it is not a condition.

## SEO audit: what to know before you order

**

### Why an audit without implementation is an expense, not an investment

The most common fate of an audit is a drawer, and rarely because it was bad. Usually no one agreed before ordering who would implement the recommendations and how many hours they had for it. That is why we ask about it on the first call and split the list into development and content tasks, with a time estimate for each item.

**

### SEO audit versus technical platform audit

The first asks why the site does not rank higher in search results, the second why it runs slowly and crashes. The scopes overlap only on performance, and the conclusions go to different people and have different priorities. Ordering an SEO audit in the hope that it will solve server problems ends in disappointment on both sides, which is why we ask about the symptom before proposing a document.

**

### When an audit pays off most

An audit done before a site rebuild or a platform change saves the most, because losses can then be prevented instead of made up for later.

**

### SEO audit from Kraków, done remotely

Our office is in Kraków, and an audit is work on data and on the site, so we deliver it remotely for companies across Poland and abroad. It is worth meeting in person, or at least on a call, for the walkthrough, especially when a developer is at the table, because half of the recommendations go to them.

**

### When to do an SEO audit

An audit pays for itself fastest in four situations. The first is choosing an SEO contractor or a quarter of cooperation without results: with one diagnosis in hand you compare offers on the same facts and see whether the problem lies in the work or in the site. The second is a site migration or rebuild. The third is a drop in organic traffic with no clear cause, including after an algorithm update, because an audit separates a change at Google from an error on the site. The fourth is the moment before spending budget on content or links, because the diagnosis tells you where that money should go. Outside these situations an audit can be premature, and then we say so.

**

### SEO audit and website SEO: what comes first

A website audit is a one-off and ends with a document. SEO is ongoing work: content, links, fixes and measurement, billed monthly. Neither is a condition for the other, because you can order an audit before working with us, during it or instead of it. You can implement the recommendations with your own team, another contractor or with us: for every item the report includes a description of the problem, how to fix it and an effort estimate, so it can be handed on without an interpreter.

## Not sure which audit you need? That is normal

Thirty minutes of conversation is enough to settle whether the problem lies in visibility, in technology or in content, and which of the four documents will actually solve it.
