# GA4 agency and web analytics implementation for online stores

Most stores have tracking installed and most do not trust its numbers. As a web analytics agency and GA4 agency in Kraków, in the EU, we clean up Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager, then set up conversion tracking and attribution so the ad panels match your orders. Finally we add product margin and returns, so the report says how much the company earned, not how many clicks there were.

**

The data stays with you

The GA4 account, the Google Tag Manager container and the cloud project are registered to your company. We do not build tracking that leaves with us.

**

GDPR compliant

A consent banner, Google Consent Mode and a record of what we collect and why. We set consent before the events fire, not after.

Starting point

## Why do GA4 and the ad panels show different numbers?

It is usually not missing data, but the lack of a single definition of an order. These are the three situations we see most often. A campaign that learns from a picture missing about 40% of events shifts budget every month towards the channel that looks effective, and keeps doing so for as long as nobody puts those numbers side by side.

**

### GA4 shows less than the warehouse

Ad blockers, browser restrictions and missing consent take away part of the events on the way. Campaigns then learn from a picture in which every third order is missing.

**

### Every panel counts its own way

Google Ads counts a sale after a click, Meta also after a mere view, and the ERP holds the number you actually invoice. Three attribution models give three totals, and none of them is a mistake.

**

### Profit left out of the report

The report shows revenue, not margin after product cost and returns. The decision to scale is then made on a number that does not say how much is left.

Definition

### What is web analytics?

**Web analytics is** collecting, organising and reading data on what users do on your website and how much of it stays in the company. It is not the same as installing a counter: tracking code alone gives numbers you cannot trust once budgets grow. It starts where someone is responsible for making sure the number of orders in the report matches the number of parcels that left the warehouse.

Collection layer

Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, e-commerce events, consent and server-side conversion tracking.

Merging layer

Data from campaigns, the store, the ERP and the warehouse brought to one vocabulary and one definition of an order.

Decision layer

A report with margin after product cost and returns, instead of the revenue reported by the ad panel.

Mechanism

## Three levels of tracking: what you get at each

Not every store needs the top level. The table shows what each level includes and when it pays to move up.

Three levels of tracking: what you get at each

| What you get | Level 1: order in GA4 | Level 2: server-side tracking | Level 3: data with margin |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| E-commerce events and funnel | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Consent and Google Consent Mode | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Resilience to ad blockers and browser limits | – | ✓ | only with level 2 |
| Conversions sent to campaigns from the server | – | ✓ | only with level 2 |
| Product cost and returns in the report | – | – | ✓ |
| One source for Google Ads, Meta and the store | – | partly | ✓ |
| When it makes sense | every store | ad budget from around €1,000 a month | when you decide on scaling |

### Work of a GA4 agency: what this table does not say

It does not say that the third level contains the second. A data warehouse and server-side tracking solve two different problems: the warehouse tells you how much is left after product cost and returns, while server-side tracking makes sure the ad channels see the order at all. You buy them separately and we quote them separately.

Scope of work

## Tracking audit, GA4 implementation and a margin report

Three areas, always in this order. An error in the first breaks everything above it, so we do not start with the report, even though the report is what everyone sees.

### Audit and order in tracking

We check whether events match orders, whether consent works and whether campaigns receive correct conversions. You get a list of discrepancies together with the cause of each one.

![Tracking audit report with a list of discrepancies](https://justidea.agency/assets/ill-analityka-internetowa-audyt-pomiaru.svg)

### Implementation and server-side tracking

GA4, Google Tag Manager, e-commerce events and Consent Mode, and with larger budgets a server-side container and conversions sent straight to the ad platforms.

 ![Diagram of server-side tracking](https://justidea.agency/assets/ill-analityka-internetowa-pomiar-serwerowy.svg)

### A report with profit

Data from campaigns, the store and the ERP gathered in one view, with product cost and returns. A report you can put in front of the board without stitching together four exports.

Tracking systems

## Where we set up conversion tracking

The order is not accidental. Google and Meta come in the first phase of every implementation, TikTok fits within the standard setup scope, and the last two systems are a separate job.

### Google Analytics 4

Events for the whole purchase path, conversions and audiences. Every implementation starts here.

### Google Tag Manager

A container in the browser and on the server, Google Consent Mode and cross-domain tracking. It goes hand in hand with GA4.

### Meta Pixel and Conversions API

The pixel plus conversions sent from the server, so Meta campaigns learn from the full picture, not from whatever the browser lets through.

### TikTok Events API

Within the standard setup scope, on the same terms as Meta: events go to TikTok from the server.

### Pinterest Tag

We implement it, but outside the basic scope. It is a separate analytics job, quoted after we check how many events need to be moved.

### LinkedIn Pixel

Same as Pinterest: we do it, but as an additional job, not within the price of the environment setup.

Store platforms

## Which store platforms we implement tracking on

PrestaShop is our specialisation and the platform we implement tracking on most often. We cover the other systems in the same scope, within the price of the environment setup.

### PrestaShop

Our specialisation: Premium GTM, Pixel Plus with Conversions API, the product feed and modules other systems do not have. We quote it separately, because PrestaShop takes a different amount of work.

### WooCommerce

E-commerce tracking on WordPress: events for the whole purchase path, consent and conversions sent to campaigns.

### WordPress

Websites and landing pages without a store, where the conversion is a form or a phone call. The same Tag Manager, different events.

**

### Shoper

Tracking on a Polish off-the-shelf SaaS platform, within the limits its template layer allows. We name that limit before quoting.

**

### Shopify

E-commerce events and server-side conversions, together with the restrictions Shopify places on scripts in the checkout.

**

### IdoSell and custom-built stores

Closed systems and in-house applications. We plug events in where the platform allows it and send the rest from the server.

How the implementation runs

## Four stages, from audit to report

Four stages. The first is a separate service and you can stop there.

1.

1

### Tracking audit

1-2 weeks

We compare GA4 events with orders in the store and in the ERP, and check consent, campaign conversions and the Google Tag Manager setup. You get a list of discrepancies together with their causes.

2.

2

### Environment setup

2-3 weeks

Order in GA4 and Tag Manager, e-commerce events, Consent Mode, connection to Google Ads and Meta. From €250 net, depending on the starting point; a PrestaShop store is quoted separately.

3.

3

### Server-side tracking

3-4 weeks

A server-side container, conversions sent from the server and tests of consistency with the panels. A one-off implementation followed by a monthly maintenance fee, both quoted individually.

4.

4

### Margin report

ongoing

Profit Analytics: data from campaigns, the store and the ERP in one view, with product cost and returns. A one-off implementation followed by a monthly fee plus the cost of the cloud.

How we work together

## What stays with you after the implementation

01

### Your accounts and your cloud

We set up GA4, Google Tag Manager and the cloud project in your company's name. When we part ways, we take our access, not your data.

02

### Tracking documentation

A record of events, parameters and the definition of an order. Without it the next agency starts from scratch and you pay twice for the same thing.

03

### Consent as standard

The banner, Consent Mode and tracking without personal data where it is not needed. This is not an add-on paid separately.

04

### Checks after implementation

Tracking breaks quietly when the website changes. Monitoring catches it before you see a drop in the monthly report.

What follows from this

## Tracking does not increase sales, it changes decisions

![Numbers in the report before and after correct tracking](https://justidea.agency/assets/ill-analityka-internetowa-przed-po.svg)

After a correct implementation the numbers in the reports usually go down, not up. Double counting from the ad panels disappears and orders match what left the warehouse. This is the moment when some companies find out they have been scaling a campaign that was not making money.

Then maintenance begins. Tracking breaks with every larger change on the website and rarely does so loudly. That is why after the implementation we offer monitoring for a monthly fee, and if the budget does not allow it, we leave the documentation and a list of things to check after every store rebuild. You can check part of that list yourself: our [free analytics scanner](https://justidea.agency/en/analytics-scanner/) opens the site like a shopper arriving from an ad and shows whether the tag manager, GA4, ad pixels and Consent Mode still send data.

Client reviews

## Tracking proves itself after months, reviews right away

Web analytics is the one service whose effect you cannot judge on your own: the numbers after our work look different from before, and you have to trust that the new ones are closer to the truth. Trust in the contractor weighs more here than in any other item of the price list. These are the ratings clients have given the agency on three platforms, with a link to each profile.

 4.96 / 5

weighted average of 224 reviews across three platforms. Clients gave them, and each site links to the profile with the full text of every review.

## What Google Analytics 4 alone will not show you

A talk (in Polish) in which we show dashboards built on our own data: day-by-day sales broken down into revenue, profit and returns, results per country, stock levels and bestsellers sorted by profit rather than by units sold. It also covers the November paradox, an error in attributing returns that overturns the assessment of a whole quarter.

Certifications and partnerships

## What these statuses give us when looking for a cause

Analytics becomes useful only once you know why the ad panel shows a different number from the report. These are the statuses that let us ask the platforms themselves about the cause, instead of guessing from inside the tool.

### Google Premier Partner

Google, top tier of the Google Partners programme

A gap between the ad panel and the report is the most common reason nobody in the company trusts the numbers. For that kind of diagnosis we have support on Google's side and access to features before their launch.

### Meta Business Partner

Meta, programme for advertising agencies

The same order comes back to Meta from the browser and from the server, and the pixel has to treat it as one. The partner status shows us whether deduplication really works, which the regular panel does not tell you.

### Top PPC Company, e-commerce Poland

Clutch, ranking of paid campaigns in e-commerce

Analytics that does not change budget decisions is a report, not a tool. This ranking is based on exactly such decisions, made on client accounts, not on the quality of presentations.

### HubSpot Certified Partner

HubSpot, certified team partnership

A form enquiry is a conversion only once the CRM confirms something came of it. The team certification covers closing the tracking loop on the sales side, not only on the website.

Doubts before we start

## What we hear before we start on tracking

Five concerns that come up most often. Each answer can be checked on your data within the first week.

### “We already have Google Analytics, surely that is enough”

GA4 alone is enough for watching traffic. It stops being enough when you decide on the budget based on it: missing events and different conversion definitions in the panels can shift the result by tens of per cent.

### “This looks like an IT project we cannot handle”

On your side there are access rights and one decision: what we count as an order. Implementation, tests and documentation are on ours, and the setup stage usually closes within two to three weeks.

### “Is server-side tracking GDPR compliant”

Yes, as long as it is done properly. Consent still decides what we collect, and Google Consent Mode passes that information on to the ad platforms. Server-side tracking is not for getting around consent, but for recovering events the browser blocks even though consent was given.

### “We would rather invest in campaigns than in analytics”

Understandable, and with small budgets often right. The threshold at which analytics pays back faster than another few hundred euros in campaigns usually sits at around €1,000 of monthly spend: from there a tracking error costs more than fixing it.

### “The previous implementation drifted anyway”

Most often because nobody kept documentation and nobody checked tracking after changes on the website. We leave a record of events and definitions, and paid monthly monitoring keeps watch on whether the data is still flowing.

Limits of the service

## Web analytics versus a data warehouse and a UX audit

Short answer

This service is the whole tracking environment: events, consent, GA4 and Google Tag Manager. Server-side tracking and a data warehouse are two separate things built on top of it: the first improves what the ad channels see, the second works out how much is left after cost and returns. They are bought independently.

A UX audit asks the same question from the other side: what people do on the website. It answers from session recordings and interviews, though, while we answer from data, not recordings. Both answers are needed and work best together, but confusing them is costly: a recording will show hesitation in the basket, but it will not tell you how much such hesitation cost over a month.

Does cookie consent break tracking? It does not break it, but it changes it for good: without consent some events are not sent at all and some go out in modelled form. Tracking without a correctly implemented banner is incomplete by definition, not by mistake, and at JustIdea we start every implementation with exactly that.

![Three levels of working with data: correct events, server-side sending and a warehouse with margin; this service sits at the first level](https://justidea.agency/assets/ill-analityka-internetowa-trzy-poziomy.svg)

### This is the service

- Events are counted wrongly or not at all.
- You do not know which numbers from the panel you can trust.
- The consent banner is in place, but nobody has checked what it lets through.
- You want one owner for all of your tracking.

### That is different work

- You are asking how much is left after the cost of goods and returns: that is a data warehouse.
- Your events are correct and it is only about sending them: that is a server-side implementation.
- You want to see where people hesitate: that is a UX audit based on session recordings.

FAQ

## Frequently asked questions for a GA4 agency

**### What does a web analytics agency do for a company selling in Europe?**

A web analytics agency makes the numbers from your European markets trustworthy: one GA4 property and one Google Tag Manager container in your company's name, e-commerce events for the whole purchase path, a consent banner that decides what is collected before tags fire, and reports that show each country on its own. Visitors who decline tracking are only partly visible in GA4, so we show you how much of your European traffic you can see before anyone reads a drop in the numbers as a drop in demand. We work from Kraków, in the EU time zone, and in English.

**### GA4 agency or GA4 consultant: which one do I need?**

A GA4 consultant usually advises and leaves the work to your team, while a GA4 agency also does it: the audit, the implementation, the documentation and, if you want it, monitoring afterwards. Choose a Google Analytics consultant when you have developers who can implement and need a second opinion on the plan. Choose an agency when nobody in the company can own tracking from end to end. We are an agency and we run the work from the audit to the report, with the accounts registered to your company.

**### What does a Google Analytics integration involve?**

It means connecting the store, which sends events for the whole purchase path, Google Tag Manager, GA4, Google Ads and the Meta pixel so that all of them count the same orders. GA4 and Google Ads are linked inside Google, while Meta receives the data through its pixel and the Conversions API. If you decide on it, we also connect a data warehouse with product cost and returns. We start with an audit of what is connected today, then set up the integrations one by one and test that each order is counted once. The result is documented, so the next person who touches the setup knows what flows where.

**### What is web analytics?**

It is collecting and reading data on what users do on your website and how much of it stays in the company. It is not the same as installing a counter: web analytics starts where the number of orders in the report matches the number of parcels that left the warehouse, and the report shows margin, not just revenue.

**### How much does an analytics implementation cost?**

Setting up GA4 and Google Tag Manager starts from €250 net. A PrestaShop store has its own item in our price list, quoted individually, because PrestaShop needs its own modules and a different amount of work. Server-side tracking and the margin report (Profit Analytics) are each priced as a one-off implementation plus a monthly fee, and we quote them after the audit, together with the cost of Google Cloud.

**### Which store platforms do you implement tracking on?**

We specialise in PrestaShop and implement tracking on it most often, together with Premium GTM, Pixel Plus with Conversions API and the product feed. Beyond that we work with WordPress and WooCommerce, Shoper, Shopify, IdoSell, custom-built stores and static websites. PrestaShop has a separate item in the price list, because it needs its own modules and a different amount of work than the other systems.

**### Is Google Analytics 4 alone enough?**

For watching traffic, yes. It stops being enough when you decide on the ad budget based on it: some events never arrive because of ad blockers and browser restrictions, and every panel counts conversions with its own attribution model. The differences then reach tens of per cent.

**### What does server-side tracking give you?**

It recovers events the browser loses and sends conversions to the ad platforms straight from the server. Campaigns then learn from a fuller picture, and the gap between the panel and sales in the store narrows. It is not for getting around user consent, and we do not set it up that way.

**### Is it GDPR compliant?**

Yes, when implemented correctly. Consent still decides what we collect, and Google Consent Mode passes that information on to the ad platforms. On top of that we limit the collection of personal data where it is not needed, and we leave documentation of what we measure and for what purpose.

**### How long does the implementation take and what is on our side?**

The environment setup usually closes within two to three weeks, server-side tracking within three to four. On your side there are access rights and decisions on definitions: what we count as an order and how we treat returns. We take care of the rest.

## What to check before a web analytics implementation

**

### Why the panels do not agree with each other

Google Ads attributes a sale to a click within the conversion window, Meta can attribute it to a view, and GA4 uses its own attribution model. On top of that come events lost by browsers. The total from the panels almost always exceeds the number of orders in the store, and that is nobody's mistake, just three different definitions of the same thing. A web analytics audit starts precisely with choosing one definition and sticking to it in every report.

**

### GA4 implementation in an online store

It is not pasting one piece of code onto the website. You need to pass events for the whole purchase path, product IDs and prices consistent with the feed, handle consent and make sure an order is counted once, including on the return from the payment gateway. The most common errors we find are duplicate transactions and missing basket values.

**

### When you need a data warehouse

A warehouse starts to pay off when you need product cost and returns to judge campaigns, and that data sits in the ERP or the warehouse system. As long as data from GA4 and the ad panels is enough, it is spending for a rainy day. The line runs where the decision to scale the budget begins: from there an error of a dozen or so per cent costs more than the whole implementation.

**

### Analytics and budget decisions

Analytics makes sense only as far as a report someone actually uses. That is why instead of twenty dashboards we build one view with one question: does this channel make money after costs. The rest stays in appendices for specialists. A good report shortens the board meeting instead of stretching it with a debate over whose chart is true.

**

### Web analytics for a company selling into Europe

Measuring European visitors has one structural limit: EU rules on cookies and similar technologies require consent before most analytics and advertising tracking, so part of your European traffic is invisible or only modelled. That is not an error to fix but a gap to size. As an ecommerce analytics agency, we set up the consent banner and Google Tag Manager so that tags fire only after consent, keep the European markets in separate views, and agree with you how to read a drop that comes from consent rather than from demand. The property and the container stay in your company's name.
