PrestaShop development company: new stores and migrations

We build and migrate online stores on PrestaShop, an open-source e-commerce platform. We connect them to your ERP and warehouse, develop them after launch, and run migration from Shopify, Magento or WooCommerce with a redirect map ready before launch. We work remotely with clients across the EU, in English, on CET hours.

Audit before you decide

10 working days and a report with priorities. You can stop there.

A fixed implementation price

We give it after the workshop where we agree the scope.

Limitations of Shopify and Shoper

On these platforms the server, the platform code and updates sit with the vendor. The vendor decides what you can change in your store and on which subscription plan. Status as of 25 September 2026, based on the vendors' pricing pages and documentation.

Custom modules on Shoper

The Standard and Standard+ plans do not include advanced store editing or building your own modules. Shoper only offers them on the Premium plan.

Multiple warehouses on Shoper

Multi-warehouse support is not available on the Standard and Standard+ plans. The Premium plan supports up to 50 warehouses.

A fourth product attribute on Shopify

A single Shopify product can have at most three options, for example size, colour and material, and at most 2,048 variants. If an item varies by four attributes, one of them has to move outside the variants, for example into separate products.

Custom fields in Shopify checkout

Extra fields and blocks in the checkout are added by apps through checkout UI extensions. On the customer information, shipping and payment steps, these extensions only work on the Shopify Plus plan.

Definition

What is PrestaShop?

PrestaShop is an open-source store platform, meaning its source code is public, which you install on your own server. Any feature that is missing can be added by a developer you choose. The licence is free, and in exchange you take on hosting, updates and development yourself. That is why it works best once your sales scale justifies an in-house team or a permanent technical partner.

PrestaShop 9

Every new store we build runs on this version.

Modules from PrestaShop Addons

Features beyond the core are added with modules from the platform's official marketplace.

Cost of modules

How much do modules cost on Shopify, Shoper and PrestaShop?

Eight features a store needs from day one: reviews, search with filters, subscriptions, a loyalty programme, returns, a page builder, basket upsell and a product feed. On SaaS platforms each one is a monthly subscription, and on PrestaShop you pay for it once.

What the module price does not cover

Updates and support for a module from PrestaShop Addons are a separate Business Care subscription, at 40% of the module's price per year. You can skip renewing it and the module still works, but if you come back for an update years later, PrestaShop will charge 40% plus 95% of the module's price. A module bought outside Addons, directly from its developer, carries a licence on that developer's own terms.

Run it on your own numbers

On SaaS, year four costs the same as year one

The subscription comes back every year, and the commission on your own payment gateway grows with revenue. Set the slider to your own revenue.

€1,000,000

Compared against the Shopify Advanced plan. The 0.6% commission applies if you keep your own payment gateway. Modules: eight features, from reviews to a product feed.

  • Shopify Advanced subscription: shopify.com/pl/pricing, Advanced plan, billed annually, checked 2026-08-16, converted to euro at the NBP rate of 25 September 2026
  • Commission on your own gateway: shopify.com/pl/pricing, fee for a third-party payment gateway on the Advanced plan, checked 2026-08-16

  • PrestaShop modules: addons.prestashop.com, nine modules matching the stack in the table, checked 2026-08-16, converted to euro at the NBP rate of 25 September 2026
Shopify Advanced subscription €3,350
Commission on your own gateway €6,000
Modules, eight features €4,640
Shopify, every year €13,990
PrestaShop, year 1 / following €2,020 / €1,100
Difference over three years €37,750

The slider compares subscription, commission, modules and hosting.

When Shopify charges a commission on revenue

Shopify Payments works in dozens of countries and supports local payment methods. The revenue commission applies when you stay with your own negotiated gateway, because it gives you better rates, split payments or factoring. On the Advanced plan Shopify charges 0.6% for this, which comes to €6,000 a year on €1M revenue.

The cost of labour on a PrestaShop store

Shopify gives you features ready to switch on at that price. PrestaShop gives you licences that need implementing, connecting and maintaining, so the PrestaShop side of the sum gains implementation and care from €320 a month. At the workshop we run both scenarios on your own numbers.

Scope

What does a PrestaShop agency actually do on a project like this?

We run PrestaShop stores for companies that have outgrown an off-the-shelf platform but do not want to keep an in-house IT department. We then take on the store itself together with its marketing, so one contractor is accountable for the result.

Store build and development

UX/UI design for your brand, PrestaShop implementation, integrations with ERP, warehouse and accounting systems, and Core Web Vitals optimisation. At the end you get implementation documentation and team training, so someone on your side can run the store.

Migration with a redirect plan

We move products, categories, customers, orders and content, and translate the old URL structure into a 301 redirect map based on real traffic from Search Console.

Growth and profit optimisation

Server-side tracking and Profit Analytics, and on top of that work on conversion, the basket and customer lifetime value. We order the work on the roadmap by impact on profit.

Scope of services

PrestaShop store development, integrations and growth

You can order each of these separately or bundled with implementation. We quote migration and hosting after auditing your current store, and integrations once we know which systems and data need connecting.

How it works, step by step

Building an online store on PrestaShop in four steps

The first step is an audit that shows whether an implementation or a migration makes sense.

  1. 1

    Technical audit

    10 working days

We check the server, PHP version, modules, performance and core modifications. The report ranks fixes by priority.

  2. 2

    Design and quote

    2-3 weeks

A workshop with your team, a map of processes and integrations, and a design of the views. At the end of this stage you get the implementation price.

  3. 3

    Implementation and migration

10-33 weeks depending on the package

We build the store and integrations, move the data from the old platform and switch on the redirects.

  4. 4

    Go-live and growth

    ongoing work

Production launch, team training, then care and optimisation.

Doubts before working with us

The most common concerns before a PrestaShop implementation

You can check each of these answers before you sign the contract.

“Migration will wreck my SEO”

This is the most common worry. We prepare the audit and the 301 redirect map before launch, using data from Search Console and Ahrefs, and schedule the switchover outside peak season, with a ready rollback plan to the old server. Rankings usually fluctuate for a few weeks after a migration before they settle.

“PrestaShop is free, but you pay for every add-on”

The licence itself is free; you pay for modules and work. Third-party modules usually cost €30-200 each, and we bill custom development at €80 net an hour.

“PrestaShop is complicated to maintain”

It is more demanding than SaaS, which is why you can hand updates and post-launch fixes to us. We build without modifying the platform's core, and post-launch care starts from €320 net a month.

“It's a big investment to start with”

The cheapest option is e-Commerce Start on a ready-made theme. A €860 audit shows whether an implementation makes sense before you spend more.

“We don't have time for an implementation”

The workshop is a single meeting. After that you sign off decisions, and we run the project. About two hours a week stays on your side.

“We have our own IT person”

They are responsible for the company's infrastructure and usually already have their hands full. An online store is a separate specialism: catalogue performance, carrier integrations, server-side tracking. We work together with them and leave documentation they can keep using.

Scale and B2B

Can PrestaShop handle a large catalogue and online B2B sales?

Short answer

Yes, without building the basics from scratch: product variants, customer groups with separate price lists and multistore sit in the platform's core, feature filtering comes from a standard module, and we connect several warehouses through ERP or WMS. Speed then comes down to the environment and the modules.

The limit is usually set by the number of variants and how many of them a customer filters at once. PrestaShop stores with a large catalogue are sped up through hosting, caching and a module review, which is why in that case we start with a technical audit.

PrestaShop fits if

  • You have a large catalogue, with variants and features that customers actually filter by.
  • You sell B2B: different prices per account, purchase limits, deferred payment.
  • The store needs to exchange data with an ERP or a warehouse system.
  • You run several stores or markets and want them on one back end.

Measure first, migrate later

  • The store is slow on shared hosting: the environment is cheaper to change than the platform.
  • One module querying the database on every listing view is the culprit.

Mateusz Haber runs Surf Inc. and JustIdea, so he both sells and builds on this platform. The talk from May 2026 is titled “From 0 to €17M GMV”; since then the store's cumulative GMV has passed €20M.

Four situations where PrestaShop is not the first step

In three of these situations it is better to start with a different service, and in the fourth with a different launch date.

The store is already live, sales are limping

Changing platform does not fix visibility. If the store runs smoothly and orders are missing, the first money should go into traffic, not into a rebuild.

See this service →

A handful of products alongside a company site

A full store platform to sell a handful of items is upkeep that will never pay for itself. A simpler start is a website with a small basket.

You want to move a store that is already running

Moving a live store has its own rules: a redirect map, testing and a switchover plan.

Launching at peak season, skipping the tests

Here we have no fallback option. A launch without pre-sale sign-off breaks down in the week the store earns the most, so we do not sign a contract for that kind of deadline.

FAQ

Questions we hear before signing a contract

How much does it cost to build a store on PrestaShop?

A technical audit of your existing store costs €860, with no obligation to go further. A new PrestaShop store is priced individually after the audit and a workshop, because the final amount depends on scope, integrations and design. Post-launch care starts from €320 net a month. All amounts are net.

How long does it take to build a store on PrestaShop?

e-Commerce Start on a ready-made theme starts from 10 weeks, e-Commerce Pro with a theme adapted to your brand identity takes 10-18 weeks, and e-Commerce Guru with a custom visual design takes 20-33 weeks. A typical implementation runs 280-635 hours of work, depending on catalogue complexity and the number of integrations.

Will migrating to PrestaShop hurt my Google rankings?

Not necessarily. The condition is a 301 redirect map ready before the switch and a launch outside peak sales season. A few weeks of fluctuation right after launch is normal.

PrestaShop or Shopify: which one should I choose?

Below roughly €50k a month in revenue, SaaS is usually enough and cheaper to run. Above that threshold, feature limits start to get in the way: things the platform will not let you build.

How do I find a good PrestaShop agency?

Look for an agency with current status in PrestaShop's partner programme, that will show you public implementations at your scale and agree to an audit before you sign a contract. Also check whether you get a named senior developer. JustIdea holds PrestaShop Expert ★★★ status, the highest tier of that programme, and co-builds Surf Inc., a store that has passed €20M in cumulative GMV on this platform.

Do the code and data belong to me after launch?

Yes. The repository, access, ad accounts and database sit with your company from day one, and the contract has no exit fee. If you decide to change agency, you take everything with you.

Do you integrate PrestaShop with ERP and with base. (BaseLinker)?

Yes. We integrate with base. (formerly BaseLinker), Comarch ERP XL and Optima, Subiekt GT, and WMS systems. The scope covers synchronising products, stock, prices and orders, configuring statuses and automations, and end-to-end testing before switching over to production.

What if the audit shows migration is not worth it for me?

You are left with a ready diagnosis of your current store, for the €860 you paid for it. A technical audit is a separate service precisely so the decision is made on numbers, with no obligation to implement.

Maintaining PrestaShop online stores

A PrestaShop agency or your own developer

PrestaShop stores are maintained in two ways: with an in-house team or with a permanent technical partner. Your own developer is cheaper for one store with a stable scope, but is often the only person who knows the code, so their holiday, illness or departure brings the work to a halt. A PrestaShop agency costs more per hour, but gives you continuity. Above roughly €70k a month in revenue, a mixed model usually wins: your own e-commerce manager on the client side, and a partner on the code side.

The cost of running a PrestaShop store

In practice, running a PrestaShop store starts from €320 net a month, plus hosting sized to your catalogue and traffic. The final amount depends on the number of integrations you need to watch every month.
