What kind of store Pinterest makes sense for
For categories where the purchase is planned: interiors, furniture, decorations, seasonal fashion, weddings, gardens, beauty, gifts. Where the purchase is immediate or purely functional, the channel loses to search and there is no reason to keep it.
Why measurement is harder here
The user saves an idea and comes back to it weeks later, often through another channel. In the last-click model, search or a direct visit then takes the credit, so the panel shows less than the channel did. That is why we read the effect on the whole company's sales, not the ROAS in the panel alone.
What decides the cost per click
The quality of the material and the order in the product catalogue. The same product shown in a setting can cost a fraction per click of what a packshot on a white background costs, because Pinterest promotes the pins people save.
Targeting, keywords and the campaign objective
Pinterest works like a search engine for inspiration, so targeting rests on keywords and interests, not on demographics alone. Someone types a query related to a renovation or a wedding and sees pins that match it, ads included. The choice of keywords decides whether the ad lands at the moment the purchase is being planned. We set the campaign objective in Pinterest Ads Manager: the campaign should bring traffic and sales to the store or build reach, and with that second marketing objective what counts is growth in brand awareness, not orders. Purchase events are collected by the Pinterest tag together with the Conversions API, and the product catalogue must have current prices and availability.
